Counselling FAQs
What is Counselling?
Personal counselling involves a trained counsellor or therapist and at least one or more clients, working together to see change and improvement. At Cascade, this process involves the hope of scripture, prayer, and faith-based discussion, as well as evidence-based therapeutic approaches.
Will Counselling help me?
While we can’t know what you’re struggling with or what the end result will be, having a trained and caring professional on your side is always a good idea. While most people can handle a certain amount of stress, there are times when this demands more than we feel we have available. Speaking to an impartial person can often help you gain perspective, remember your strengths, combat your challenges, and move forward. Our aim is to support you in a faith-affirming context, and our training and professional methods will help us work through some of the things you’re struggling with.
What issues can you help with?
You can view a list of our services here, or call/email with any specific questions. If you don’t see your issue on our list, please get in touch! We are here to help, and our administrators will be able to match you with a therapist or recommend another professional.
How long will counselling last?
Typically each individual session is 60 minutes long, with sessions held at our offices in Abbotsford, Surrey or Chilliwack or online via ZOOM,. The amount of sessions varies depending on the individual and their particular issue.
What will be expected of me?
To start, you’ll make the best of your sessions if you show up on time, be open and honest, and commit to the process you and your therapist begin. You will be responsible for most of the internal work, but will be supported through each step. You may be given homework or new strategies to implement between sessions. If something isn’t working how you’d hoped, chose to give helpful feedback instead of dropping your counselling sessions.
Will other people know I’m seeing a counsellor?
We understand that so many issues that individuals seek help with are sensitive in nature, and confidentiality is extremely important. We will take all possible precautions to ensure your privacy.
What is the difference between an initial consultation and a counselling appointment?
The free 15-minute initial consultation is a chance to get to know your therapist and involve some intake question and answer. Once you make your first appointment, your sessions will begin to work towards meeting your counselling goals. If you know counselling is a route you wish to take, we encourage you to book a full session!
Is online counselling an option?
Yes. We recognize that some people don’t have access to transportation, may have mobility issues, lack of time or other factors that would impede them in seeking counselling. All of our counsellors are now able to offer counselling services online via ZOOM.
